We kicked today off with a 7:30am breakfast, before getting the bus to our first schools of the day. As its day three of training, upon arrival we went straight into a game of tag rugby in order to narrow down our team of 40 to the final 10 in preparation for tournament day, which will take place tomorrow at Dams Water. Selecting the final team is always one of the toughest aspects of the tour, with lots of tears and disappointment, and I’m sure the kids all find it hard too, but they are all happy to come and support.
The focus of each teams sessions today was to focus on firstly selecting our team of 10, and then to move onto developing some tactics and making sure each player is clear with each of the rules of the game. Having now completed 6 days of training our Ugandan schools, it is clear to see that each of us have developed a much higher understanding of the game of tag rugby itself as well as seeing an obvious improvement in our confidence in coaching with everyone who didn’t referee at our tournament last week in Mbale volunteering to referee at this weeks tournament in Jinga.
